Steel Embed Plate Installation Overview and its Usage
You may take advantage of boltable steel embeds’ construction economies while keeping your existing design engineering, structural steel manufacturing, and erection procedures. The boltable steel embeds are generally placed in the same way that regular welded Steel Embeds are.
Installation Process of Steel Embed Plates
The following are the processes for installing boltable Steel Embed Plates Houston and some key differences to be aware of compared to standard field welded steel embeds.
· The Steel Embed Plates are fastened to the interior of the concrete form with screws provided with each steel embed. The screws are incorporated with the steel embed, eliminating the need to hold the screws in position when driving them in.
· To facilitate vertical placement and alignment of the steel embed, a chalk line should be snapped at the Top of Plate Elevation on the concrete form.
· The steel embed plate can be slipped into position without interfering with the rebar because of its design.
· A Top-Center alignment groove is placed on Steel Embed Plates for horizontal alignment. When fitting the conventional clip angles to the steel embed, as shown in the steps below, there is a tolerance of up to 1/2" in each direction horizontally. If a steel embed is horizontally off center more than this allowed, a clip angle with a greater tolerance (longer slots) can be readily produced.
· Bolts are hand-installed into the rear of the Steel Embed Plate after being moved into place and connected to the interior of the concrete form. The embed can be slipped into place without interfering with the installed reinforcement since the bolts are added after the Steel embed is in place (rebar).
· The concrete form is removed after the concrete has been poured, showing the Steel Embed face. Just before fitting the clip angle, the pre-installed plastic thread protection plugs are removed.
· Bolts are then used to attach the clip angles to the Steel Embeds. At this stage of structural steel manufacturing, Bolting steel embeds saves time and money over utilizing specific field welded steel embeds.
Usage of Steel Embed Plates
The slots in our boltable steel embeds are a key design feature that allows for installation adjustments. The horizontal slots in both legs of the steel embed clip angles, as shown below, allow for movement in both the X and Z horizontal axes. The 1 7/8" long slots are intended for 3/4" bolts, allowing for horizontal adjustment of up to 1/2" off-center. If a Steel Embed is misaligned, a custom clip angle may be rapidly manufactured to accommodate the necessary changes.
Final Thoughts
It was a more straightforward and industry-accepted method of incorporating thermal breaks into Houston’s Steel Embed Plates to concrete connection.
